Welcome to the 50th Anniversary of the Gibraltar National Archives Exhibition.
Fine Arts Gallery, Casemates, 5th - 23rd November 2019
The aim of the exhibition is firstly to celebrate the first fifty years of Archives in Gibraltar. How the cumulative work of the past and present Archivists have produced the GNA public service we have today as we move into the second decade of the 21st Century.

Secondly, to display a small representative sample taken from the GNA repository treasure-trove.

The Exhibition is made up of seven sections covering over 1,300 years.

Pre-16th Century to the 21st Century.

From Just before 711 to 2019.

A total of 268 images will be displayed on
138 5mm PVC panels


A lecture series will include 45-minute talks
with 15-minute questions and answers discussions (starting at 1800)

The showpiece of the exhibition is a 19th Century oversized (265cm x 108cm) Ordinance Survey Map

In addition, the Theatre Royal installation Tito’s Window is also a highlight.

Six glass cabinets will display a selection of dioramas created by Ralph Capurro.

Together with a selection of irreplaceable, original GNA treasures.

Also on display, a selection of early to mid-twentieth century lithographic objects. Including printing Stones (lithographic limestone), metal plates with smooth surfaces and printing cubes.



The GNA Conservation Toolkit will be on display with daily tutorials and demonstrations at 1100, 1400 and 1700.

The exhibition includes live Digitisation at the exhibition venue using the SD-1 Contex Large Format Scanner. Kindly sponsored by The Friends of Gibraltar in 2018
